Ardbeg Uigeadail (pronounced ‘Oog-a-dal’) is named after the distillery’s water source, Loch Uigeadail, which means “a dark, mysterious place” in Gaelic. This expression, the Ardbeg Committee’s favorite, is a masterful marriage of deep smoky, spicy, and sweet flavors, all thanks to a unique vatting method. Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry Oloroso casks, this non-chill filtered single malt delivers a rich, full-bodied experience.
At 54.2% ABV, Ardbeg Uigeadail exudes a deep golden hue, accompanied by heady and smoky aromas. On the nose, expect a beguiling mix of warm Christmas cake, parma violets, and walnut oil, layered with ocean spice, cedar, and smouldering coal fires. Hints of treacle toffee, chocolate-coated raisins, and well-oiled leather add depth and richness.
The palate reveals a full-flavored, deep mouth-coating texture, where sweetness balances with bursts of winter spices and smokiness. Honey-glazed smoked food and chewy treacle lead to waves of deep smoky tones, reminiscent of a fine Montecristo cigar. The finish is long, chewy, and lingering with raisiny, mocha tones enveloped in aromatic smoke—a true testament to Ardbeg’s legacy and craftsmanship.
