The Flagship of Habanos
 
Cohiba, the flagship brand of Habanos, was created in 1966 for President Fidel Castro and made at the then top-secret El Laguito factory. Initially reserved for gifts to heads of state and diplomats, Cohiba cigars have been available in limited quantities to the public since 1982.
 
A Rich History
 
The name Cohiba is derived from an ancient Taino Indian word for the bunches of tobacco leaves that Columbus first observed being smoked by Cuba's original inhabitants - the earliest known form of a Habano. The leaves for Cohiba are the "selection of selection" from the finest Vegas de Primera in the San Juan y Martinez and San Luis districts of the Vuelta Abajo zone.
 
Unique Fermentation Process
 
Uniquely among Habanos, up to three of Cohiba's filler leaves (seco, ligero, and the rare medio tiempo) undergo an additional fermentation in barrels, producing a special aroma and flavor exclusive to Cohiba.
 
Línea 1492 - Siglo II
 
The Cohiba Línea 1492 range was first introduced in 1992 during a Festival held to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus. The Linea 1492 originally consisted of five sizes - Siglo I, II, III, IV, and V, with the VI introduced in 2002. Each Siglo (meaning 'Century' in Spanish) commemorates one of the five subsequent centuries.
 
The Lightest Flavoured Line
 
Classified as medium-flavored, the Línea 1492 remains the lightest flavored line of Cohibas. The Cohiba Siglo II, in its Petit Corona format, offers a unique character with greater lightness, freshness, and richness of flavors, perfect for those who find Cohibas too strong.
